In contrast, a bulk Ag sheet, studied in cross section, showed an adherent corrosion layer of only around 20-50 nm in thickness after over a decade of being exposed to ambient air. The results have implications for antibacterial properties and ecotoxicology of AgNP during corrosion as the dissolution and reformation of Ag particles during corrosion will likely be accompanied by the release of Ag+ ions.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 12:52:26 AEST ]]> Multimode plasmon resonances on double - and triple-decker stacks of silver nanotriangles https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19548 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:58:26 AEDT ]]> First principles calculations of the optical and plasmonic response of Au alloys and intermetallic compounds https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19137 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:55:54 AEDT ]]> AuAl2 and PtAl2 as potential plasmonic materials https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18533 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:50:12 AEDT ]]> Dielectric function and its predicted effect on localized plasmon resonances of equiatomic Au-Cu https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28067 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:39:47 AEDT ]]> Optical properties and electronic structure of the Cu-Zn brasses https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:26812 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:36:28 AEDT ]]> Higher order plasmonic modes excited in ag triangular nanoplates by an electron beam https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:29297 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:34:12 AEDT ]]> The effect of vacancies on the optical properties of AuAl₂ https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25899 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:28:17 AEDT ]]> Anomalously strong plasmon resonances in aluminium bronze by modification of the electronic density-of-states https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25150 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:17:09 AEDT ]]> Effect of Al additions on the optical properties of Au α-phase https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24836 xAu1-x (0 < x < 0.12) substitutional solid solutions is determined. Reflectance spectra and ellipsometric data of a range of compositions are measured and the dielectric functions extracted. Al additions flatten the reflection edge and increase optical loss in the Drude region. The implications of these changes for selected technological applications are investigated. Aluminium is found to be a very effective bleaching agent for Au and could have application for the formulation of improved 'white gold' jewellery alloys. However, due to its limited solubility in Au a-phase, other alloying additions would still be required to make a commercially acceptable 'white gold'. In contrast, the increased optical loss brought by the Al makes the alloys less suitable than pure Au for plasmonic applications or for spectrally selective coatings.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:15:11 AEDT ]]>
